We most certainly would like to think we are, but the real question is “are we really smarter than shorter people”? Let’s find out!
Over at the University of Edinburgh, they are hitting the books and playing with test tubes to get to the bottom of this. Their efforts have not gone to waste; they have discovered a “moderate” correlation between height and intelligence.
In this study they gathered information and genetics from over 24,000 people in just a four year time period. They then tested their molecules with relation to their IQ. The end result, of all of their hard work, is that the IQ of a person is slightly higher based on how tall that person is.
Professor Marioni stated, “What we found was a small association between height and intelligence such that people who are taller tend to be smarter.” A couple of the reasons for the higher IQ is that taller people generally have larger brains and that taller people typically share common genetic variants. These two factors, along with several others, are what caused the small boost in intellect.
So there you have it! We are smarter than shorter people, even if it is just a little bit. Nowadays bragging rights backed by scientific evidence goes a long ways. However, women end up with the ultimate bragging rights because the results of this study also showed that the average IQ of a woman is slightly higher than that of the average man.
