When I was just a young lad I loved the outdoors. Everything about it; the trees, animals, fresh air. You name it, I loved it! My parents decided it was a good idea to take us kids to Yellowstone National Park to go explore nature and it’s wonderful creatures.
Not only did I love the outdoors I also loved anything BIG. Big trucks, big mountains, and even big animals. While I was visiting the park with my family I always kept my eye out for one of the largest land animals on the planet, moose.
After two weeks of driving around and glassing with my binos, I never saw a single one. It isn’t enough to say that I was disappointed, so my dad decided we would go the long way home and visit Bear World. At Bear World, they have bears…and a moose. The moose was named Stilts, for obvious reasons, and was so calm you could feed the thing right out of your hand.
I knew that moose were big, but I had no idea how big they really were. They make horses look like sheep. An adult moose will average almost seven feet tall and weigh 1500 pounds. Let’s just say you don’t want to run into one of these in the woods.
