It is almost human nature to be amazed by the bigger and taller, both in structures and in nature. Even young toddlers try to stack blocks as high as they can until they tumble down. At a young age, it seems it is in us to stretch the limits of height.
Here is a list of some of our favorite tall things that will definitely cause some jaw dropping if you are lucky enough to see them in person.
The Redwoods National and State Parks
Located in Northern California, the Redwoods are an old growth temperate rainforest. These trees are the tallest in the world and one of the most massive tree species. As of 2006, the tallest tree in the park was 379.1 feet.
Mount Everest
You can’t have a list of tall things without including Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. It is located in the Himalayas and the summit point is the international border between China and Nepal. Its official height is 8,848 meters or 29,029 feet. The record for the fastest ascent from the Everest base camp with supplemental oxygen is held by Pemba Dorje from Nepal, which he did in 8 hours and 10 minutes. The fastest ascent from the base camp without supplemental oxygen is held by Aman Kumar Sinha from India, which he did 20 hours and 24 minutes.
Angel Falls
Located in Caniama National Park, Venezuela, Angel Falls is the tallest uninterrupted waterfall in the world, with the height of 3,212 feet. The waterfall is fed by rainfall in its tropical climate. It is said that the waterfall is so high that some of the water evaporates before reaches the ground.
Burj Khalifa
Standing as the world’s tallest artificial structure, Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. It is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and is 2,722 feet tall. It was featured in the movie “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” in which Tom Cruise’s character scaled the outside of the building.
Kingda Ka
The Kingda Ka is the tallest roller coaster in the world. It is located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. At its highest point it stands at 456 feet and launched by hydraulic launch mechanism to 128 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds.
The Spring Temple Buddha
Located in the Zhaocun Township in China, the Spring Temple Buddha is the tallest statue in the world. Completed in 2002, it is 502 feet tall.
The Great Pyramid of Giza
Standing at 455 feet, this pyramid was the tallest man-made structure for over 3,800 years. It had a pretty good run, if you ask us. Considering it was built completely by hand without the machines we have today makes it all the more remarkable.
