It’s common for basketball players to be among the tallest people out there. Height is very important to the game as it takes fewer strides to get down the court, gets you above many people to make blocking and shooting easier, and it’s easier to do a slam dunk which makes you look cooler. Who holds the record for the tallest NBA player though? The answer is Gheorghe Muresan who barely beats out Manute Bol. Muresan was measured to be 7’ 7” while Bol was officially measured at 7’ 6-3/4”. If you wanted to say they’re the same height I wouldn’t blame you.

Muresan played for the Washington Bullets (now known as the Washington Wizards) from 1993 through 1997 before signing up with the New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets) for 1998-2000. He played 307 games with 3,020 points across all games! That means that he averaged 9.8 points per game.

Muresan retired in 2000 after some injuries put his career on hold. Since retiring, Muresan helped raise his two sons and he has helped organize basketball leagues and camps in the Washington D.C. area including his own Giant Basketball Academy. When he’s not in the United States, he is often at his home in Romania where he also helps organize basketball leagues.
