We’re coming up on November which is when Election Day is held. While this year may not feature a presidential run, it’s still a great time to look at our nation’s leaders. We’re not going to look at the tallest Presidents of the United States. The first president we’re going to look at is Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States. He was born on January 30, 1882, and was inaugurated in 1933. He defeated Herbert Hoover and won the right to lead the nation during the Great Depression. Shortly after entering office, he instituted the New Deal to provide relief to many Americans while also helping the economy recover. Roosevelt was also President when Prohibition came to an end.
The economic recovery seen during his first term led to another landslide victory in the election of 1936. He would then win the 1940 election and be the only President to serve more than two terms. The timing also meant that Roosevelt was President on December 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. The day after, he would get a declaration of war on Japan from Congress with declarations on Germany and Italy followed after a few days.
Roosevelt would continue to win a fourth term as President, but his poor physical health led to his passing 11 weeks into that term.
