Bamboo - weird material for a shirt, right?
If you didn't know, we sell Bamboo Tees here at TallSlim - and they wick moisture away like it's nobody's business. Seriously, when I fold these shirts for my husband, they feel cold to the touch.
The Experiment:
Midsummer heat got me thinking: just how moisture-wicking are these bad boys?
We're currently on a road trip seeing the west coast (including blistering hot Las Vegas), so I decided to put on an experiment. As we traveled, I had my husband wear our bamboo shirt during different activities & report how he felt wearing them.
Here's what he said:
Experiment #1: Hike in the Redwoods
One of our biggest stops on our trip was the Redwood forest - in which we did some long hikes through the towering trees. My husband, Nathan, wore TallSlim's bamboo shirt all day. Here's how he rated it:
Moisture Wicking: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Comfort: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance for Hiking: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Notes from Nathan: "During the hike, the shirt felt good. Despite wearing a heavy backpack all afternoon, I didn't feel any sweat between the backpack and my back."
Experiment #2: Stair Stepper Workout
Nathan is a firefighter, and he's been prepping for a pretty intense physical test for work coming up. For each session, he did high interval stair stepper training, getting his heart rate up to 190 and then allowing 2 minutes of rest between. He wore the bamboo shirt during 2 different workouts, and this is how he rated it:
Moisture Wicking: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Comfort: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance for Cardio: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ("Part of me prefers a tank top for cardio workouts, but if you like a t-shirt for cardio - this one is great")
Notes from Nathan: "There was no ventilation at the first gym we visited, so the air was completely still during my entire workout. I got absolutely drenched during this workout, which is why I gave it 4 stars for 'moisture wicking' - BUT it dried out faster than my other shirts, so I was comfortable in no time. At the second gym, there was ventilation - and the shirt felt breathable and breezy, super comfortable throughout the whole workout."
Experiment #3: Walking the Vegas Strip
We visited Vegas for July 4th - and that day, temps got up to 115℉. We were dying! We walked the Vegas strip both during the day and at night, and Nathan wore his bamboo shirt while we melted. It was a tough test - here's what he said:
Moisture Wicking: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Comfort: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance for High Heat: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ("For intense sun exposure, I prefer a long sleeve shirt because it keeps the sun off my skin - but that's just a personal preference. It works great if you prefer a t-shirt")
Notes from Nathan: "It definitely felt better than a cotton t-shirt for the heat - but to a certain extent, in 115℉ - it doesn't matter what you're wearing, you're just going to feel hot. So overall, I'd say this shirt worked great."
Conclusion:
I asked Nathan a few final questions about the Bamboo Tee altogether:
How does this shirt compare with other athletic tees?
"I like the fit around the torso. I like the breathability, more than most. I also love the lightweight feel. Overall, very comfortable. My only remark is that it isn't the most durable for some intense sports - but if you aren't wearing it for high impact sports, it's great."
How do you rate the bamboo material?
"It's thin, lightweight, and breathable - so for summer, it's pretty ideal."
Would you recommend this tee to tall guys?
"Definitely."
