If a Tall person tells you a Tall Tale, and then that same tall person tells you a folk tale; what’s the difference?
A Folk Tale is a story that is passed down by word of mouth from generations to generation. We usually consider this to be a fairy tale or a fable sometimes even a legend. T
A Tall Tale is most often referred to as a story involving a hero. The “tall” is brought into the picture because the hero is often “larger than life“. Since the beginning of the stories portraying a hero will always tell of how tall and strong the hero was. This has nothing more to do with the fact that taller people are looked up to as leaders.
Next time you are sitting on the floor with your knees crossed, listening to your Grandma tell stories decide, is this a fable, folk tale, or a tall tale?
