The Great Pyrenees is an adorable dog breed. If you’re looking for a big dog that looks more like a wolf, you’ll want to consider a Tamaskan. A Tamaskan male averages a height of around 28 inches, it can reach up to about 33 or 34 inches. This puts it just taller than the Pyrenees. Females typically reach a height of about 28 inches which is just shy of the 29 inches a female Pyrenees can reach.
The Tamaskan is a Finnish dog that is a cross between several types of sled dogs such as Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute. This gives them a larger build than most sled dogs. The crossbreeding is also what gives a Tamaskan its lupine appearance. These dogs are expected to have a lifespan of about 15 years and litters that range from 6-10 puppies.
If you’re a fan of Lucretia Choir, you can see a Tamaskan by the name of Ghengis Khan in their music video for “Hear My Cry.” Also, Wave is the name of a Tamaskan who became the official Live Mascot of North Carolina State University’s football team in September 2010. The team is the NC State Wolfpack and Wave (aka Tuffy) can be seen on the sidelines of most home games.
